a.k.a. Top Ten Burn Spells
#10 - Disintegrate
It basically says to creatures, "You are *≈#$ing gone... No, you can't regenerate. No, you can't come back from the dead."
If 'indestructible' was a thing when this card was made, it probably would've said, "That creature loses indestructible until end of turn and can't be regenerated this turn."
#9 - Grapeshot
It takes the right deck/combo to pull it off, but if you get it right this little dude will be the bane of your opponents.
I threw it into a Modern deck with Blistercoil Weird and Paradise Mantle. I would cast it, and make upwards of ten copies. "Hope you got a Flusterstorm in your hand."
There are other combos that can make this thing go infinite - many of them involving a 0 CMC artifact, as you may have guessed.
It may take just the right formula, but when you storm this thing properly, the look on your opponents face is priceless.
#8 - Flame Slash
#7 - Clan Defiance
And when you're playing Red/Green, there's no better way to piss off your fellow players than to burn 2 of their creatures, and hit one of them in the face.
And that's just what Clan Defiance does.
#6 - Pyroclasm
Do you need to keep those nasty aggro hordes off your back until you can play your real good stuff?
This card will level the battlefield and give you early card advantage.
Those super aggro players who flood the field early with tons of small beaters laugh at the likes of Shock, Doom Blade, and Path to Exile. Put they won't be laughing when you throw this thing down.
"Booya!"
#5 - Fling
Maybe you have a huge creature that can't seem to get thru a bunch of chump blockers. Or maybe your opponent's about to exile your Colossus of Akros.
Just Fling it!
There are few things more satisfying then throwing your biggest creature directly at your opponent... except maybe throwing your opponents biggest creature.
I just wanna see some knew art, where the giant flings something bigger than a goblin. Who uses Fling on a Goblin? It should be throwing at least a cow or something.
#4 - Soul's Fire
-There's no sacking of your creature.
-There's no damage dealt back to your creature.
-The creature deals the damage, not the spell. i.e., Combos with Lifelink, Deathtouch, Infect, etc.
"I will Giant Growth my Phyrexian Hydra, and Soul's FI-YA!"
#3 - Goblin Grenade
Knock off a quarter of someone's life for 1 mana and one Goblin? Seriously?
Turn 1: Goblin Arsonist.
Turn 2: Attack. Then Goblin Grenade and Lightning Bolt. For a total of 10 damage!
Need I say more?
#2 - Lightning Bolt
This is the archetype of all burn spells. Many people run creatures with 4 toughness, solely with this in mind.
It's pretty much in every non-standard burn deck. When someone targets you with this on turn 1, you instantly know what kind of deck they're running. And once you know, you'll always be wondering if they have another one in their hand.
"Why do you keep leaving that one mountain untapped?"
#1 - Fireblast
It's basically the burn equivalent of Force of Will.
Just when they think you're all done doing who-knows-how-much damage with all of your however-much mana, here comes 4 more.
Also, Countryside Crusher loves this card.
